Dark wolf shadow work
BY MAE GREEN

There is popular proverb that speaks of the two wolves we all carry within us. It attempts to explain the inner conflict we experience within by using the metaphor of an ongoing battle of two wolves, one that is darkness, despair, and evil, while the other represents light, hope, and goodness. An innocent inquiry is made, “Which one will win?” The response, “The one you feed the most.”This answer is straight to the point but only begins to touch on the relationship we have with our dark wolf. Furthermore, this metaphor does not really help us understand what are dark wolf is, nor how to manage a hungry being that cannot die as it is a core part of ourselves. Both wolves are going to be fed over a lifetime, even if the tending of the dark wolf is done in subconscious secret. The real power of this metaphor is not to try and control your wolves through feast and famine, and declare a final winner, but rather to train them to consume the right food in a healthy way. A balanced way. This can only be done by understanding your dark wolf, its needs and desires, because they are your needs and desires.
The Dark Wolf Shadow Work Journal is filled with questions designed to shed light on the ways in which your dark wolf impacts the quality of your daily life. By examining relationship conflict patterns, taboo impulses, self-destructive behaviours, unacknowledged pain, and the toxic nature of your inner shadow wolf, you can free yourself from the uncontrolled influence of your dark wolf.
Filled with empowering training activities this journal also focuses on turning your insights into actionable items to engage with both your shadow and light wolves in a constructive way. Your engaged light wolf evolves into the powerful guardian it is meant to be and your dark wolf is trained to become an active asset on your soul journey by channelling darker impulses into constructive tasks. Through balance your companion wolves learn to work together for your benefit.

Let’s Make Something Happen

Smudged Pages Studio is small. We’re scrappy. We’re curious.

Smudged Pages Studio isn’t just a press—it’s a playground for creative works. We’re an Indigenous-owned space (Tuscarora, Six Nations) that loves to experiment: books, zines, essays, comics, art, workshops, maybe even an exhibit or two (first time for everything, right?). If it’s creative, we’re probably interested. What we’re looking for:Stories & words. Fiction, nonfiction, self-help, poetry, micro-essays, manifestos, weird hybrid forms… we want it all.Visual works. Comics, illustration, photography, collage, experimental art—anything that makes us look twice.Projects & ideas. Courses, workshops, community events, art shows, collaborations we haven’t even thought of yet. (Yes, pitch your wildest “what if…”—we’re here for it.)What we care about:Your voice, your vision. Polished? Great. Messy? Also great. We care about the spark, not the gloss.Accessibility. We want creators to feel welcome regardless of ability, background, or resources. Tell us what you need—we’ll work with you.Getting your work out there. This isn’t a graveyard for forgotten projects. We want to share, print, exhibit, post, and celebrate the things you make. How to submit/collaborate:Send us a short note about your idea—finished or just a seed.Include any samples, sketches, or drafts if you have them (not required).Tell us a little about yourself, your process, or why this project matters to you.Tiny note from the publisher:
We’re very small. Like, desk-in-the-corner small. Our supervisor may or may not be a fluffy orange cat (who doubles as an ergonomic pillow). No big budgets here—just coffee, chaos, and passion. But we will make space for your work to be seen.
We’re excited to hear from you. Let’s talk, let’s experiment, and let’s make something alive together.

ABOUT US

Indigenous owned. Voices amplified. Chaos embraced.

Smudged Pages Studio is a scrappy, hands-on creative hub, proudly rooted in the Tuscarora Nation on Turtle Island (Ontario), where tradition meets ink-stained pages. We publish, experiment, and collaborate across mediums—books, zines, essays, comics, visual art, workshops, and more—always uplifting Indigenous narratives and marginalized voices. Our work is tactile, zine-inspired, and unafraid of mess. Ink-stained pages, unpolished voices, and experimental formats are not accidents—they’re sacred acts of rebellion. Every project we touch is treated like it’s alive, meant to move beyond the screen and into readers’ hands, hearts, and minds. Our vision:
To be the go-to space for storytellers, artists, and creators whose voices defy the glossy constraints of traditional publishing. We imagine a catalog of smudged, soulful work—writing, art, and experiences that feel alive, breathing between pages, across workshops, and in every creative interaction we facilitate.
Why we exist:
Because the world needs stories and creative works that don’t fit neatly into boxes. Because your voice, messy or perfect, deserves to be heard. Because sometimes a little chaos, ink, and love can change everything.
